Belarus: Switzerland extends restrictions affecting related digital assets and services
On 18 September 2026, Swiss federal authorities announced additional restrictions concerning Belarus, effective on 19 September. The financial measures cover certain cryptocurrencies and central bank digital currencies, including the Belarusian digital ruble.
The release also identifies restrictions on transactions with cryptoasset service providers and decentralised platforms established in Belarus. These measures belong to Switzerland’s sanctions framework. They are not a general prohibition on digital asset transactions within the EAEU. For international cooperation, the applicable jurisdiction, transaction parties and infrastructure matter; a counterparty’s location in an EAEU country does not itself remove the need to check these factors.
